The Evolution of Beeps, Bings and BSOD

Mark Tomlinson: The Start of My Tech Journey
I began my IT career in 2000, working on the rollout of broadband infrastructure across the UK for NTL, now Virgin Media. This role provided foundational experience in large-scale network deployment and maintenance during a pivotal time in UK telecommunications.
In 2004, I advanced to Faults Manager at O2 Telefónica, where I was responsible for diagnosing and resolving network faults, ensuring continuous service across a national mobile network.
In 2007, I joined Carphone Warehouse as Head of Geek Squad, leading technical support teams responsible for device repairs and customer service. This position sharpened my leadership skills and deepened my expertise in consumer and business technology solutions.
In 2013, I transitioned to full-time self-employment as an IT contractor. Over the years, I have taken on a range of roles including Team Leader, Deployment Lead, Team Manager, Project Lead, and Consultant. My focus has been on hardware specialization with Dell, HP, and Lenovo systems, supported by Microsoft certifications as well as RIT-Tech and Chartered IT status.
My responsibilities have included managing complex hardware deployments and migrations across Windows 7, 8, 10, and 11, alongside Microsoft 365, Azure, and Intune environments. I have applied DevOps principles to improve IT operations efficiency and contributed as a co-pilot on AI server projects, integrating emerging technologies into traditional IT infrastructure.
Throughout my contracting work, I have supported high-security and critical clients including the Police, HMRC, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Defence, AstraZeneca, and various local and central government departments. These roles demand strict adherence to security protocols, meticulous project management, and the ability to deliver reliable, timely solutions under pressure.
In 2021, I relocated from the UK to France. In 2023, I established Halo Computers, an independent computer repair business providing professional and efficient IT support services to private and business clients.
